Colorado Springs Doctor Shares Researched Concerns About Effectiveness of Hospitals and Healthcare Today
When you get sick in Colorado Springs, where do you think to go first? The hospital, right? For as long as any of us can remember, hospitals have been a symbol of the most advanced health care in the world.
What if I told you that medical doctors around the nation are now saying that our health care system is a failing system that is built on a failing philosophy, and that despite our best efforts and intentions and the largest health care budget in the world, we are no where close to being the healthiest nation in the world?
Dr. Barbara Starfield (MD) of Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) that the American Health Care System is in fact the third leading cause of death in America.
The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) says that we spend more money than any other nation in the world (twice as much as second place Canada) and yet we are near last among the top fifty nations for infant mortality (46th - two places behind Cuba) and life expectancy (50th - five places behind Bosnia and Herzegovina).
The World Health Organization says we are ranked 37th out of 191 countries for health and wellness. That doesn't sound bad until you see that we are 15 spots behind Columbia. You can access the full report here.
This philosophy is stated very clearly by Medicare:
"Care that seeks to prevent disease, promote health, and prolong and enhance the quality of life, is not considered medically necessary." Medicare (HCH 2251.3)
Is There Another Way?
We have these results because we have followed a philosophy based on reactive crisis care, primarily surgery and prescription drugs. That is not to say that bad people with bad intentions work in our Colorado Springs hospitals and health care facilities around our great nation. In fact, it is the opposite. Our health care practitioners want the best for us.
However, due to our philosophy of care, we have taken the incredible capabilities of emergency room care and applied them to everyday health care in our hospitals and clinics, and we are literally killing ourselves in the process.
Colorado Springs Doctor Releases Free
If you are on the brink of a major health care decision, it is worth your time to download this free e-book written by Colorado Springs doctor, Molly Kallenbach (DC) that thoroughly documents, in a fun and entertaining way, the current health care system, and your options.
When you pick a Colorado Springs hospital or clinic, you are picking a philosophy and an end result. We encourage you to be informed. If you go to a surgeon to ask about how to handle back pain (the second most popular reason patients see a doctor - the first is respiratory infection), what type of solution do you expect to receive? In fact, there are prescription and surgical protocols that doctors must follow in order to keep their license. Just because something is protocol does not make it best for you. Systems are slow to change.
Surgery and prescription medications can begin a cascade of events that may produce adverse effects, as described by Dr. Starfield in her eye-opening article, and require more drugs and more surgeries. This cascade of events can be life threatening. Dr. Starfield states that 106,000 deaths a year are caused by non-error, negative effects of drugs, and 7,000 die by medication errors in hospitals. This doesn't include adverse reactions to drugs, and it doesn't include outpatient statistics. Have you ever noticed drug commercials in which the side-effects are worse than the original symptom the drug was meant to cure?
Regarding surgery, there is no such thing as minor surgery. Infections alone accounted for 80,000 deaths in Dr. Starfield's study. And among outpatients, she sited another 199,000 additional deaths (by various causes).
We have options for you that can dramatically reduce your insurance costs and health care costs, and increase your enjoyment of the human experience. You can take back your health with these
drug-free, surgery-free solutions, but only if you act now to change your mind and your choices. Procrastination is an enemy to health.
